“A Deus” Exhibition, FCT, Lisbon

The invitation to exhibit “A Deus” at the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Lisbon, marked an important moment in Mónica Cid’s artistic journey. Presented within the library space, the exhibition established a poetic dialogue between drawing, books, movement, and sculpture — a particularly meaningful context for an artist whose practice has long emerged from sketchbooks and observational drawing.

The scale of the space allowed the line to expand beyond the intimate dimensions of the page and inhabit the architecture itself. Drawings escaped the sketchbook and became physical presences: suspended gestures transformed into sculptural lines, fragile yet alive, occupying space with movement and spontaneity.

The exhibition explored the relationship between observation and transformation — how fleeting gestures, anonymous figures, and everyday movement can evolve into something theatrical, poetic, and quietly surreal.

Alongside the final installations, these images reveal fragments of the creative process: sketchbooks, experiments, wire studies, installation moments, and the inauguration itself. Together, they reflect a body of work rooted in drawing as both gesture and discovery — where line becomes form, and form retains the freedom of the drawn mark.

Mónica Cid remains deeply grateful to the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia for this generous invitation and for providing such an inspiring space in which the work could grow beyond its original scale and inhabit the world in a new way.
